Under the Same Sky

I just keep telling myself this: we can see the same moon, the same stars, under the same sky.

Maybe right now you are feeling the sun beat down on your face. Sitting there wondering what I am doing, what we could be doing together.

Maybe you are resting your head on your pillow, allowing the weight of the day to be released.

Maybe you are drinking your morning coffee, listening to Mads Lager, wondering where the time has gone.

Maybe you are laughing with your buddies, drinking a pint, letting the pain slip away.

Maybe you are hiking up your favourite trail, reaching the top only to stretch your hands up to the heavens and pray that you are still here.

Maybe you are looking up at the stars, waiting for one to shoot across the sky so you can make a wish.

Maybe you are looking out your window missing me the way I miss you. Pretending your arms are around me, your lips lingering on my forehead.

Maybe.

But that’s all it is, maybes.

You are so far away, and sometimes it hurts.

You are so far away, and I wish that you weren’t.

You are so far away, but a part of me still feels like we are connected.

You are so far away, but yet, we are under the same sky.

Physically, there is so much space between us – cars, planes, trains, boats. There are plans that haven’t been made, and a list of reasons why. But yet, every so often when my head hits the pillow I think of breaking them all. And, it doesn’t hurt as much.

I think of how we are under the same vast blanket of black lit by the moon and stars. Those promises we whispered into the wind is still there, written in the constellations.

You may be far away, but we still share the same sky.

You may be far away, but we still share the same dream.

You may be far away, but we still share the same love.

You may be far away, but we still look up.

You may be far away, but we are still the same people.

You may be far away, but one day you won’t be.

So, I hope that when you are feeling the way I feel at time, you remember all of this. We are never that far apart that the stars above us can’t connect us in some way.
