Would you, please, pick up that dusty old dictionary sitting in the corner of your room and look up the word feminism. You will find that by definition it is simply for men and women to have equal rights and opportunities. It is not about hating on what it is to be a man or devaluing that. It is about giving women choices and freedom.
This has been tracked through our brains a million times over in the last few years, but it is a truth. It is not something that we have to parade around and just because we don’t, doesn’t mean that we aren’t passionate about the issue. It just means our voices aren’t as loud as others. But this is not what this post is about. This is about all the women out there who are soft but strong, genuine but head-strong, compassionate but blunt. This is about all the women out there who are changing the world one step at a time and redefining what it means to be a woman.
Being a woman means so much more than what the term is defined as. You are not just an exterior with legs, breasts and booty. You are your grandmothers eyes and your fathers nose. You are wit and politeness. You are cherished and strong. You could move mountains if you wanted to.
You are more than just a woman, you are a masterpiece that is waiting to come out her shell.
Make time for yourself, educate yourself on the things that interest you, question everything. Make goals, both small and big, celebrate every win that you achieve. Make bold moves and put one foot in front of the other. Empower those around you both young and old. Smile your way through the hard times. Work hard on your self-confidence and stick up for yourself every single day. Go out, create the world you want to live in, don’t wait for it to be handed to you. Be the you that you want to be. Celebrate you, me, her, us.
Now here’s some quotes from some badass woman out there who are making their voices heard and showing us how to embrace our curves, our minds, our hearts.
“Hold on to your friends. Kiss your mama. Admit what your dreams are. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t know what you’re gonna do tomorrow. But work hard and don’t be lazy. And put away your damn phone once in a while. And be nice to jerks, because we still don’t know the criteria for getting into heaven yet.” – Maya Rudolph
“respect isn’t something you command through intimidation and intellectual bullying. It’s something you build through a long life of treating people how you want to be treated, and focusing on your mission.” – Lena Dunham
“Young girls are told you have to be the delicate princess. Hermione taught them that you can be the warrior.” – Emma Watson
“Don’t become something just because someone else wants you to, or because it’s easy; you won’t be happy. You have to do what you really, really, really, want to do, even if it scares the shit out of you.” – Kristen Wiig
“Just do what works for you, because there will always be someone who thinks differently.” – Michelle Obama
“I would like to be known as an intelligent woman, a courageous woman, a loving woman, a woman who teaches by being.” – Maya Angelou
